BIO ~ Darren Barton

President of Fouled Anchor Media LLC

Darren grew up in Tucson and went to Sahuaro High School (a Drama nerd). He joined the U.S. Navy as a Fire Controlman working on electronics of a ships weapon system.

After 21 years in the Navy, he spent another eleven at a defense contractor and earned a master’s in administration with a focus on Project Management from Northern Arizona University.  Darren got into film after meeting some local Actors/Directors. He has three amazing daughters and a fantastically wonderful wife.

I’m still relatively new to the film industry. I’ve mostly done small Indie short films and a couple Indie features. I was bit by the Drama/Acting bug in high school, but I didn’t pursue it. I took the safe route and joined the Navy. When I retired from the Navy and moved back to Tucson, I met some folks associated with the Film Actors Workshop, Alan Williams, Austin Buchanan, Avai d’Amico, and Daniel Gonzalez. They were my guides into the world of film. I use the rest of my G.I. Bill to earn my Associates of Science in Digital Film and Animation from Pima Community College.

Being on set and helping make the magic happen is awesome. It is also challenging. Camera angles and costumes provide a creative challenge on where to place microphones. Communication with other department heads (camera, wardrobe, etc.) is very important and helps remove potential issues/roadblocks on production day.

Fouled Anchor Media LLC is my company. My goal is to provide outstanding location audio recording for productions. I try to get the best quality in order to reduce the amount of post-production work needed for dialogue and other audio takes. Eventually, I want to expand into the Foley art and editing (post-production).

In addition to being ordained, I earned my CrossFit Level 1 certificate, which means I can be a CrossFit coach. I’m working on qualifying as a coach for the gym I go to, Milo Fitness Factory.
