BIO ~ Alyssa DeMeo

I/O Psychology Practitioner & Executive Coach

Raised in Columbus, GA, in a military family, I fell in love with psychology at 10. I earned my psychology bachelor’s from Columbus State University and started a travel concierge service at 20. My career spans door-to-door sales, teaching English in China, and being director of operations for a construction company.

I hold a master’s in industrial and organizational psychology from Harvard and am now an Industrial and Organizational Psychology Practitioner.  Next year, I’ll begin a PhD.

My journey into entrepreneurship began during my undergraduate years at Columbus State University. I wasn’t happy with my door-to-door sales job selling knives, and I tried to find a manager position. But since I was still in college and couldn’t commit to 40 hours a week, I kept getting turned down. Determined to find a solution, I created my own opportunity by founding a travel concierge service. This venture allowed me to pursue my interest in travel while providing financial stability.

Running my own business quickly became a passion, and my love for entrepreneurship soon rivaled my love for psychology. My business flourished, earning me a feature on ForbesBooks Radio. However, the unforeseen impact of COVID-19 forced me to close my business. With the closure of my travel concierge service, I turned my focus back to education, aiming to marry my passion for business with my passion for psychology. I discovered Harvard’s program in industrial and organizational psychology, which seemed like the perfect fit.

During my studies at Harvard, I immersed myself in learning about business management, creating effective teams, leadership development, employee satisfaction, talent and performance management, and management consulting. The program’s comprehensive approach provided me with a deep understanding of the psychological principles that underpin successful business practices. One of the most transformative aspects of the program was learning how to be a coach and management consultant.

After completing my master’s degree, I realized that I wanted to use my psychology foundation to help business owners and executives create workplaces that employees genuinely enjoy. I began coaching, focusing on helping leaders build effective teams, foster employee happiness, and enhance overall organizational performance.

My unique combination of entrepreneurial experience and academic knowledge allows me to provide valuable insights and practical strategies to my clients. As I continue to grow in this field, I am committed to making a positive impact on the business world by helping leaders create thriving, supportive, and productive work environments.
