BIO ~ Frank Powers
Cartoonist and Children’s Entertainer
Raised on Long Island, NY. I went to school in NYC at the School of Visual Arts for Cartooning & Illustration.
Moved to Tucson in 2005, Moved back to Long Island for 4 years, and then made it back to Tucson, in 2012 and got a
Master’s Degree in 2017 in motion arts with my master’s thesis being my own live talk show. I then followed up and took a 17 week business course at Startup Tucson that finished with a “Shark Tank” style pitch competition, which I won.
I’ve been a freelance illustrator and cartoonist since 2003 illustrating children’s books and self-publishing comics. I created a character named Pissed ØFF Panda and self-publish comic books, selling at dozens of comic cons, and hundreds of trade shows and craft fairs.
I opened my own art gallery for cartooning and comics in 2015, but felt trapped in a brick a mortar building so I wanted to be mobile as well and pivoted to The Comic Bookmobile!
The Comic Bookmobile is my 1969 VW that I drive to schools and community events all over Tucson. I go by the title of BFF – Best FRANK Forever and teach kid’s in classrooms, camps, and especially the Pima County Libraries how to draw cartoons and how to believe in themselves.
