BIO ~ Bill Lake

Constable, Justice Precinct 8

I moved to Tucson in 1984 with my family, attended Salpointe High School & enlisted in the Air Force my Senior Year. I attended the U of A & got married here. I earned my Bachelor Degree & was selected to attend Pilot Training at Sheppard AFB, Texas, where my daughter was born.

I then returned to Tucson to learn how to fly the F-16. A few years later, I came back to Tucson again, securing the Arizona border and welcomed my son into this world.  In 2021, my wife of 30 years passed from cancer.

I was appointed in October 2021 to fill a vacancy for Justice Precinct 5. Justice Precinct 5 was merged into Justice Precinct 8 in 2022, so I ran as a write-in for the Primary Election in 2022 for the new Justice Precinct 8.

On August 25th, Constable Martinez was killed in the line of duty along with the property manager and another innocent tenant, before the gunman took his own life. This horrible event had devastating consequences on families and the community and had a ripple effect on the Constable office – with several Constables making the decision to retire or take on new jobs.

I assumed the role of Presiding Constable and worked to implement wide changes to improve the safety and effectiveness of the Constables and how we serve the community, as well as helping to ensure new Constables had the training, supplies, and support to perform their jobs.

With the cooperation of the County Attorney’s office and the County Administrator, we developed a Standard Operating Procedures Manual that helps streamline and unify the office. Working with the Arizona Constable’s Association and Constable Ethics Standards and Training Board, we ensured that all Constables had proper body armor. I petitioned the Board of Supervisors for a supplemental budget to purchase Body Cameras, offering video documentation of events to promote transparency and protect all parties. I also asked for Tasers so that Constables had a non-lethal form of defense. I coordinated with the Pima County Sheriff and Chief of Tucson Police to establish communication and support between those agencies and the Constables.
