About: J. Kristin Olson-Garewal MD

Co-Founder and CEO: “The Homing Project”

Born in St Paul MN. Oldest Girl of 9 children. We moved frequently to follow my civil engineer father’s work on freeway bridges. I did grades 1-12 in parochial school, at first with nuns sent from Ireland to “the mission district of California.”

Later I attended an all-girls Catholic high school in Puerto Rico learning Spanish in the process. Then to Boston University’s Honors 6 yr. Med Program, finishing with an MD. My internal medicine residency was done at the Boston VA Med Center.

Soon after my retirement my son, Raj Garewal asked me to help start a tiny home village for people experiencing homelessness. Raj had worked with a large services center for homeless people in Santa Monica. We had both become concerned with the hundreds of homeless encampments throughout Tucson. So we visited a number of Tucsonans working with the problem of homelessness, Tucson city council members, and tiny home villages in California.

Then we started a nonprofit, I resigned my position on Clinical Amistad’s Board of Directors due to conflict of interest, and began writing a business plan and applying for grants.
