The man may be retired but in reality he’s the busiest Volunteer Board Director in Southern Arizona. Making his mark in Corporate America then taking those skills into the Non for Profit genre has seen Dominic Ortega help to raise millions of dollars for both health and Education causes.

About Dominic Ortega

I was raised in Globe AZ. the 3rd of 7. I was fortunate to have two incredibly supportive parents. My father was the most intelligent, happy and humble man I have ever known. My mother was a charmer, beautiful and elegant. She was strong and self-made. They were great examples of a loving couple and that people should always be positive and support others.

I attended University of Arizona. I met the love of my life Myriam, and graduated in Business. We married and have 3 great children, a 34 year old son and 32 year old twin daughters.

My life in the business world went well. I was promoted many times and recognized for my achievements. I was written up in articles and TV spots. But most importantly, I was able to provide for my family and spend time with them. I was able to build my success upon relationships and believe integrity was very important.

I retired from a $35 billion dollar company. I was a Senior Consultant specializing in Sales, Marketing and Education. It was a fun and challenging position because I was always trying to help those wanted to do better, actually do better. People were glad to see me. I develop a reputation for and energized presentation.

In the last 7 years of work I started planning for what I would do in retirement. This would have been about 15 years ago.

I found a real need in the nonprofit world. I would apply the corporate skills to help the nonprofits. I found a group with a mission I believed in, Education. I would be President for 2 years.

The club held a dinner fundraiser, it would raise about $25,000. I hosted the event and we raised $325,000. The 2nd year I was asked to raise $3 million in on year. That’s an interesting story.

So Healthcare and Education are the areas I focus on.

I have served on many Boards but now I find I can do more with less restrictions if I am not on a Board. I have built a Brand as a connector. Tell me a little about yourself and I can write your elevator speech. Even my photos tell a story about nonprofits and their Mission.

In 2019 I went to 121 events, sharing Time, Treasure or Talent with them. In 2019 we were named the Philanthropist of the Year here in Tucson. I mentor about 10-12 young people in the Community, some need a little guidance some a lot. It’s very rewarding to see their success. I have very strong relationships with the University of Arizona Eller College and College of Business.

Any special notes? I am a hopeless romantic still very much in love with my wife of 42 years. I’m trying to leave this place a little better than I found it.
